On April 27, former two-division world boxing champion Tomoki Kameda, 34, updated his YouTube channel "TMK BOXING TV" to discuss the upcoming match between Naoya Inoue, 32, the unified super bantamweight world champion, and Junto Nakatani, 28. The fight is scheduled for May 2 at Tokyo Dome. Nakatani has carved his own path to success, moving to the U.S. alone after middle school to pursue his boxing dreams. Despite being an unconventional figure among Japan's amateur elite champions, he has made a name for himself, stating, "I've walked a path only I could." In his super bantamweight debut last December, Nakatani secured a unanimous decision victory over Mexico's Sebastian Hernandez, 25. With an undefeated record of 32 wins (24 by KO), Nakatani is preparing for the biggest fight of his life. Kameda praised Nakatani's performance, saying, "Hernandez is strong, like a zombie. Nakatani's evaluation might have dropped a bit, but mine went up. He was tough, and his punches remained strong from the first to the twelfth round. He must have trained a lot because usually, the power drops. He's been practicing hard."
Tomoki Kameda was born on July 12, 1991, in Osaka. He debuted professionally in Mexico in November 2008 after graduating middle school. In January 2010, he won the WBC Central America and Caribbean bantamweight title and became the first Japanese WBO champion in August 2013. After three title defenses, he relinquished the title and won the WBC interim super bantamweight title in November 2018. His professional record stands at 47 fights, 42 wins (23 by KO), and 5 losses.
Naoya Inoue, born on April 10, 1993, in Zama City, Kanagawa, was the first high school student to win seven amateur titles at Sagamihara Seiryo High School. He turned professional in 2012, winning the WBC light flyweight title in April 2014, the WBO super flyweight title in December 2014, and the WBA bantamweight title in 2018. In December 2022, he unified four titles and captured the WBC and WBO super bantamweight titles in July 2023, achieving a four-division world championship. His professional record is 32 wins (27 by KO) with no losses.
Junto Nakatani, born on January 2, 1998, in Toin Town, Mie, began boxing in middle school and moved to the U.S. alone to hone his skills, bypassing high school. He debuted professionally in Japan in April 2015, winning the Japanese flyweight title in February 2019 and the WBO world title in November 2020. In May 2023, he claimed the WBO super flyweight title.
