In three of these games, where he also served as a DH, he managed only 1 hit in 10 at-bats. Reflecting on his performance after the game against the Mets on the 15th of this month, where he played exclusively as a pitcher, Ohtani said, "I was a bit surprised by the decision to focus solely on pitching, but I think it's a good strategy for the team. I decided to concentrate on pitching first." This was his first official game focusing solely on pitching since May 28, 2021, during his time with the Angels. He noted, "The intervals between innings felt long, which was unusual. I had more time to strategize against batters, which made for a productive experience.
