ONE Championship is set to make history in Japan, the "Land of the Rising Sun," with the launch of its new series. On April 29, 2026, a national holiday, the inaugural event "ONE SAMURAI 1" will take place at Tokyo's Ariake Arena. The event will be exclusively live-streamed on U-NEXT at 1:15 PM and broadcast on Fuji TV at 10:00 PM. The first event in this commemorative series will feature a highly anticipated rematch as the main event. Takeru and Rodtang Jitmuangnon will clash once again for the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing Interim World Championship. Takeru, a superstar in Japanese martial arts, suffered a career-defining defeat when he was knocked out by Rodtang in just 80 seconds during their first encounter in March 2025. However, Takeru has since regained his confidence and form, defeating top contenders to return to the championship scene. This rematch is not only a chance for Takeru to avenge his loss against his greatest rival but also an opportunity to aim for the world title in front of his home fans in Japan. Rodtang, on the other hand, approaches this fight with unwavering determination. Known as the "Iron Man," he is a former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion with six successful defenses and now seeks to achieve his dream of becoming a world champion in kickboxing as well. To do so, he must once again overcome the legendary Takeru, whom he respects greatly. Additionally, Takeru's teammate from Team Vasileus, Yuki Yoda, will challenge ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan Haggerty. Yoda has consistently declared his intention to challenge for the title since joining ONE and has finally earned his shot by defeating formidable champions. He will face the British champion in a high-stakes match for the world's most prestigious belt. Furthermore, ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Yuya Wakamatsu will defend his title for the second time at Ariake Arena. Currently in the best form of his career, Wakamatsu recently defeated the most dominant flyweight and strawweight champion in ONE history. However, his challenger this time is the dangerous up-and-comer Abazbek Khormilzaev, a tall and young fighter who has finished most of his career fights. "ONE SAMURAI 1" will feature Japanese stars and top athletes from around the world competing in MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and submission grappling. The event promises world title matches and an array of thrilling bouts that will exceed the audience's expectations.
